The Voices online, a webzine that is the brainchild of Advocate Ruhail Choudhury which is trying to promote friendship among students across the world with various online activities hosted the Dr. Radhakrishnan Award for the third consecutive year on Saturday 3rd September 2022. The ambassador from Denmark His Excellency Freddy Svane was the chief guest of the event. This year, too there were important contributors to the field of education who were inducted to the growing bank of eminent educators awarded by the webzine. These eminent educators continue to impact impressionable minds through their works, actions, and words.

In the previous years, we had the likes of L.W.Hartnett, Gunmeet Bindra, Rupkatha Sarkar, John A Bagul, Sunita Sen, Sumit Dargon, Joyeeta Mukherjee, Srabanti Basu, and Joeeta Basu who were recognized and felicitated for their outstanding contribution in the field of education.

This year, the webzine felicitated Ms.Kalyani Patnaik, the Principal and head of Hiranandani International School, Mumbai, Mr. Girja Shankar Agarwal, Chairman, Seth M R Jaipuria School from Lucknow, Mr. Imran Zaki educationist and philanthropist from Kolkata, and Prof Federico Jarast, Scholar & Teacher from Argentina with the prestigious Dr Radhakrishnan Award.

The webzine, recognizing and respecting the growing need for inclusivity and international mindedness, invited dignitaries like Tanmoy Chakrabarty GGO Tata Sons, Zafar Iqbal IAS, Adv. Anoop Bose and others to share their perspectives and views on the significant issue. Eminent actors, director and writer Tathagata Chowdhury was the host of the event. The event was supported by young students and professionals like Srinjan Mitra and Adrija Jana.

The recipients and panelists realized and endorsed the importance and need of giving students across the world their ‘own voices’ and therefore a platform like www.thevoicesonline.com with over six lakhs readers across the world becomes imperative.

“Where the mind is without fear…” Rabindranath Thakur.

The pandemic will remain synonymous with ‘fear’. But education institutions across the country managed to combat Covid. Instead of pressing ‘panic buttons’, they took the bull by its horns as they used technology to continue with ‘teaching’.

The Voicesonline.com, Advocate Ruhail Choudhury’s brainchild, brought together eight schools , recognizing the outstanding online excellence, the schools managed to achieve.

The BSS school was awarded for conducting an online international debate. The moderator, Professor Deborshi Barat, also recognized for being one of the better actors in his generation, expressed surprise and awe of this rare feat. The Principal, Ms.Sunita Sen, confirmed that it wasn’t easy to curate an international event of this nature, adjusting time zones and overcome technical glitches.

The DPS Rajpura school in Punjab is not even a year old, and yet , the young talents fromThe school managed to present an online Christmas cantata that had music, characters like Santa Claus and the Snowman and characters from the Holy Bible.

The St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, Calcutta, organized Exuberance, their annual fest. The school Captain, Naman Poddar while receiving the accolade from the webzine, shared that the students were determined to ensure the fest happens, even in the midst of the pandemic.

The Pathways World School was daring enough to conduct an online theatre exhibition. This was unique because the students participating from different cities, went live,to create the scenes. They were performing from their domestic spaces. The School proved to be a risk-taker. Ms. Seema Sareen, the theatre facilitator of the School received the award.

Riya Mishra, a student from M. R. Jaipuria School, Lucknow, shared how the school organized an online Poetry fest. English, Urdu, and Hindi were the languages one heard at the poetry session.

The South City International School, Calcutta charmed the zoom gathering, discussing the school’s online project of preserving tigers. The school is represented by the teacher Sneha Gomes expressed the school attempts to sensitize children from their early years, the importance of preservation of nature.

The Mahadevi Birla World Academy wanted to ensure that outdoor activities like sports, is not neglected by the students, even during the pandemic. Sharbani Mukherjee, faculty from the school mentioned that this year too, the annual sports were conducted, but virtually, with a similar competitive nature.

A special award was also given to Mr. Imran Zaki, an eminent educationist and social reformer for his outstanding contribution towards the education and welfare of underprivileged children.

Tanmay Chakrabarty CGO Tata Sons, Anoop Bose Senior Advocate Supreme Court of India and Lion Lekha Sharma District Governor of Lions Clubs International, Vijay Sarawagi and Dilip Jhajharia from Lions Club of Calcutta were the special guests of honor for the event.

Through this event, the message was shared by Voices online to its 80,000+ readers that Teachers have been also dynamic Covid Warriors, and their outstanding contributions need to be appreciated.

TREASURES OF INNOCENCE

It’s not their fault that they are born
then why should they mourn

Advocate Ruhail Choudhury, the founder of The voices online, perhaps had this thought, when he considered to join a team who were determined to treasure the innocence of those children who smile despite the odds they face. Treasures Of Innocence is an NGO that works with children from neighboring slums in Garia. The Voices Online had partnered with Sonali, proprietor of The Wisdom Tree to start the new year by gifting a good time to some of these children. Actor Moubani Sorcar, literally created magic, not just with few tricks but live singing and genuine smiles as she entertained the children. Aritro, a young musician, conducted an impromptu guitar workshop which added the dose of music to complete such an outing.

Tathagata Chowdhury, a reputed theatre personality and a core team member of The Voices Online gifted a laptop to the children from the NGO to ensure that the children are not deprived from their online education opportunities.

Despite busy schedule and possible party plans, the gifted shared the gifts with those who perhaps dream of such gifts from a distance. May 2021 see privileges distributed and innocence treasured.
